Clifford Allen Wand

Clifford Allen Wand, 79, went home to be with the Lord onSaturday, June 27, 2009, at 6:50 p.m. surrounded by his lovingfamily.

Services are 10 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Brookhavenwith burial in Easthaven Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 9 p.m. at Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1929, in Brookhaven to the late OttoAllen and Mary Niesz Wand. He was the owner of Wand Seed Storeuntil his retirement in 1996. Mr. Wand was a 1949 graduate ofBrookhaven High School, where he had the distinction of becomingthe first four-year letterman in football and was also voted Mr.BHS his senior year.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War andafter coming home he attended the University of SouthernMississippi, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and amember of their Fifty Year Club. His loyalty and support continuedthroughout his life to both Southern Miss and the fraternity. Hewas recognized for his outstanding service for 31 years to theSouthern Miss Alumni Association and was chosen Alumnus of the Yearin 1995. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the WahabiShriner Organization. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church,where he served as Sunday school superintendent for 30 years andserved as deacon and elder for 37 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his first belovedwife of 38 years, Mitzi Oberschmidt Wand.

Survivors are his present wife, Trudy Givens Wand, ofBrookhaven; his sons, David Allen Wand, of Arley, Ala., Gary KeithWand, of Brookhaven; his daughter, Janice Wand Wallace and husband,Joey, of Brookhaven; along with his two grandsons, Cayce Wallace,of Jackson, and Caleb Wallace, of Brookhaven. Survivors alsoinclude a stepson, Stuart Givens and wife, Jane, of Wesson; astepdaughter, Susan Jones along with her husband, Jamie, ofMadison. His four step-grandchildren are Molly Jones, of Laurel,and Leah Frances Jones, of Madison, Betsy Givens and Berry Givens,of Wesson. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives,Floyd and Polly Wand, of Brookhaven, and Robert and Robbie Wand, ofBaton Rouge, La., along with a host of nephews and nieces. He isalso survived by the remaining friends of his beloved BHS Class of’49.
