Lady Wolverines roll past ‘Cats

BOGUE CHITTO -The East Webster Lady Wolverines handed the BogueChitto Lady Bobcats a 7-2 loss in the first game in thebest-of-three series in the Class 1A South State Fastpitch SoftballPlayoffs Thursday night.
Bogue Chitto (26-6) travels to Maben Saturday to face EastWebster (20-7) for Game Two beginning at 5 p.m. If a third game isnecessary, it will immediately follow.
“If we made the plays early, it would have been a closer game,”said Bogue Chitto girls head coach Scott Leggett. “But we playedhard and hit the ball.”
Jessie Halterman was the winning pitcher with 5 strikeouts, 1walk and 1 hit batsman. Kelli Howard took the loss with 2strikeouts and no walks.
“We got timely hits when we needed,” said East Webster coachBill Brand. “Halterman pitched a good game. Bogue Chitto has a goodteam We took advantage of their errors.”
Darcy Miller drilled a solo home run in the fourth inning tolead the ‘Cats. Adrienne Wallace, Blaine Myers and Howardsingled.
Leading East Webster was Swayze Hollendhead with a double and 2singles. Caitlyn Williamson and Jordan Sisk each doubled andsingled. Halterman singled twice.
