Hornets overpower Bruins

Led by a 5-run first inning, the Loyd Star Hornets overpoweredSt. Joseph 14-3 Tuesday night in varsity baseball action.
The Hornets (12-5, 5-2) got six strikeouts from starting pitcherDrew Weaver en route to collecting the win. Weaver gave up two hitsin the 5-inning contest, walking one.
“Drew threw well tonight and we gave him some run support,” saidLoyd Star coach Jonathan Breakfield. “I thought we hit the ballwell and put pressure on their defense.”
Matt Sigler absorbed the loss for St. Joes, despite collectingthree strikeouts and walking one.
At the plate, Loyd Star’s Leebo Bairfield led all batters with ahome run and a single. Kory Allen also belted a home run.
Drew Weaver collected a triple and a single, while Travis Keeneadded two singles. Marquis Haynes, Cody Smith, and T.J. Floyd eachadded a single apiece.
Miles Pritchard led St. Joseph with a double, while Connor Wolfplated a single.
