Co-Lin splits twinbill

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves split a South Division baseballdoubleheader with the East Central Community College WarriorsTuesday at Sullivan Field. Co-Lin won the opener 16-10 but fell toEast Central 12-7 in the finale.
The Wolves are 8-13 overall and 1-3 in South Division play. TheWarriors are 14-12 on the season and 3-1 in division action.
The Co-Lin-Hinds doubledheader, originally scheduled at Raymondtoday, has been moved to Thursday because of wet field conditions.The first game begins at 3 p.m.
“I thought we battled all night,” said Co-Lin head baseballcoach Keith Case. “They were sloppy ballgames. We played with a lotof emotion. Both teams swung the bats extremely well. You hate towin the first and take the lead and lose the last one. We didn’tmake pitches. East Central swung the bat well.”
Lawrence County’s Joseph Evans returned to the mound after beinghit in the face by a batted baseball two weeks ago at Itawamba.
“Evans was wearing a clear mask (like basketball players),”stated Case. “He had problems with the sun glaring off it. To getback up there is like getting back on the horse. He’ll be OK.”
Co-Lin 16, E. Central 10
East Central led 3-0 after the first inning and 6-0 in the topof the third. Co-Lin exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the thirdto take a 9-6 lead.
Going into the bottom of the sixth, the Wolves held a 12-10 leadbefore adding 4 more runs for a 16-10.
Ian Ferrell (2-0) was the winning pitcher in the opener, working4 innings with 2 strikeouts, 4 walks and 8 runs allowed on 8 hits.Brock Campbell worked the final 3 innings with no strikeouts, 3walks and 2 runs allowed on 1 hit.
Absorbing the loss was Timothy Mahoney who worked the first 2.1innings with 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 8 runs allowed on 8 hits.Following Mahoney was Lance Gibson for 1.1 innings.
Co-Lin committed 8 errors and East Central 4 in the contest.
Powering the Wolves with 3 singles apiece were Jeff DeBlieux andLuke Brumfield. Jarred Rogers, Jonathan Grace, Matthew Freeman andKendall Logan drilled 2 singles each. Hitting safely were MasonWarren and Cameron Logan.
The Warriors got a home run from SamWooten. Quin Stokes andZeEricka Hall doubled.
E. Central 12, Co-Lin 7
In the second game, reliever Jordan Smith was the winner forEast Central. Starting was Austin Buchanan for 1.2 innings, JayMitchell worked the next 2 innings.
Brandon Jones (1-2) absorbed the loss in 3.0 innings with 4strikeouts, 0 walks and 3 runs allowed on 8 hits. Evans started andwent 3.1 innings with 2 strikeouts, 2 walks and 6 runs allowed on 3hits.
Cable McMinn led the Wolves with a double and 2 singles.Doubling was Kendall Logan. Singling twice was DeBlieux and Rogers.Hitting safely were Warren, Grace, Brumfield, Tyler Hue and BennettWilson.
Pacing the Warriors with a double and 2 singles was May. ClintColeman singled 3 times followed by Stokes with 2 singles.
