Charlie Nelson
Services for Charlie Nelson, of Meadville, are 1 p.m. Monday,March 9, at Charlie Nelson Homestead in McCall Creek with burial inthe Charlie Nelson Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday from 1 until 6 p.m. at Williams Mortuarywith family present from 5 until 6 p.m.
Mr. Nelson, 89, died March 3, 2009, at his residence. He wasborn in McCall Creek on Oct. 28, 1919, to Andrew Nelson Sr. andMinnie Byrd Nelson.
He was a well-known blues singer. He retired from Hill AirfieldLane in Layton, Utah, and from the National Forestry Service inMississippi. Mr. Nelson served in the U.S. Army during World WarII. He was also an Alexander High School graduate.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, WillieNelson, Jimmy Nelson, Lloyd Cole, Jessie Nelson and Coye Nelson;his sisters, Clara Cameron, Cynthia Nelson Wood, Geneva Cotton,Lola Bell Dorsey, Pearl Adams, Willie Mae Cultley and EloiseNelson.
Survivors are his son, Je’Unte’ Bailey, of the U.S. Army; hisbrothers, Andrew Nelson Jr., of McCall Creek, W.C. Nelson, ofMobile, Ala., and Richard Nelson, of Layton; a special nephew, JoeCameron, of McCall Creek; and many other relatives.
Christopher Chad ‘Chris’ Rushing
Services for Christopher Chad “Chris” Rushing, of Magee, are 10a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Chapel inMagee with burial in Goodwater Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Rushing, 37, died March 4, 2009, at Magee GeneralHospital.
He was a plumber.
Preceding him in death were a grandfather, Dewey E. Rushing Sr.;and a grandmother, Juanita Smith.
Survivors are his father and stepmother, Dewey E. “Pete” andMary Ann Rushing, of Magee; his mother and stepfather, Norma Jeanand Bobby Kennison, of Brookhaven; his daughters, Ariel and SarahRushing, of Magee; a brother, David Scott Rushing, of Magee; astepbrother, Ricky Lichte, of Magee; and a grandmother, MarthaRushing, of Magee.
Gary William Steele
Services for Gary William Steele, of Smithdale, are 11 a.m.Saturday, March 7, at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadvillewith burial in Terry Cemetery in Smithdale. The Rev. Joey Bernardand Elder Jerry Wilkinson will officiate.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeralhome.
Mr. Steele, 52, died March 4, 2009, at his residence. He wasborn in Pike County on April 5, 1956, to Charley W. Steele andAlice Smith Steele.
He was owner of Franklin Furniture Co. in Meadville. He was ofthe Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E.Steele and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith.
Survivors are his parents, Charley W. and Alice Smith Steele, ofSmithdale; his sons, Miles Fiorello, Morgan Fiorello, TaitFiorello, Sal Fiorello, all of Meadville; a sister, Janet Buckelsand husband, Carey, of Blair, Neb.; his two nieces; and his threenephews.
Pallbearers are Mark Butler, Tom Smith, Phillip Spring, MichaelSpring, Stan Hilton, Trent Carter, John Cloy and Carey Buckels.Honorary pallbearers are Clint Spring, Shannon Spring, Jeff Freemanand Conner Spring.
