West Lincoln sweeps Lawrence County

The host West Lincoln Lady Bears swept a varsity doubleheaderfrom the Lawrence County Lady Cougars Thursday night in slowpitchsoftball action. West Lincoln rallied to win the opener 3-2 andposted a 5-2 victory in the finals.
West Lincoln (5-1) travels to Wesson tonight for non-divisionaction. The junior varsity game begins at 5 followed by the varsityat 6.
“We cut down on our errors,” said West Lincoln head coach AndrewRedd. “But we still need to get better. We hit the ball better, butwe still need to be selective on the pitches.”

Shelby Lofton posted the win in the first game with 1 strikeoutand 1 walk. The losing hurler was Shelby Mitchell with 2 strikeoutsand no walks.
The Lady Cougars led the Lady Bears 2-1 after four innings. Thehosts tied the game 2-2 in the fifth and went ahead 3-2 in thesixth.
Directing West Lincoln at the plate with a pair of doubles wasHannah Knouse. Julie Case singled twice. Doubling was HaleyAinsworth. Alexis Cook, Laina Laird and Katie Mullins singled.
Lawrence County got a double and a single from Daphne Armstrong.Jessie Alexander, Allie Harris, Mary Margret McLauren and Mitchellhit safely.
“We’re improving and we cut down on our errors,” said LawrenceCounty head coach Courtney Shivers. “But we made mistakes when wedidn’t need to. We hit the ball well. We could not hit thegaps.”
West Lincoln 5, Lawrence County 2
Powering West Lincoln at the plate with a triple and a singlewas Ainsworth. Laird and Case ripped 2 singles apiece. Doubling wasKayla Beth Rushing. Ashley McCaffrey and Keri Easley singled.
Lawrence County got a 3 singles from Natalie Harrington. Harrisdoubled and singled. Shelby Mitchell doubled twice. Doubling wasArmstrong. Alexander, Tyra Griffin, Kristen Sauls and McLaurensingled.
Jessica Franklin posted the win in the second contest with 2strikeouts and no walks. Mitchell had no strikeouts and no walks inthe loss.
