Ferriday Stars finish 5th

WEST MONROE, LA. – The Franklin County laden Ferriday All-Starsfinished fifth in the Louisiana Dixie Debs State Fast-pitchsoftball Tournament over the weekend.
Ferriday paced by seven FCHS players lost to Caldwell Parish 7-3in an elimination game Sunday afternoon.
Natchez Trinity product Alyx Atkinson (Hinds CC signee) absorbedthe loss for Ferriday.
FC products Monea Cameron, Kacey Smith and Shaniquia Cameron hadbase hits for the Ferriday All-Stars. Smith finished with twosingles, while Shaniquia Cameron added a double. Monea Cameron, aCo-Lin signee ripped a single.
“It was a fun run,” said Ferriday All-Star’s coach Dana Smith,who was helped by Myra Stewart and her husband Mickey Smith asmanagers on the team.
The Ferriday All-Stars only suited out nine players in the StateTournament, due to illnesses that hit the team.
“We were out numbered from the start,” added Smith. “We playedhard and gave it a shot.”
This was the second straight year the Ferriday All-Starsfinished fifth in the fifth in the tournament, an awardedaccomplishment.
FCHS players on the team included Co-Lin signee MelissaMcFarland, who had five strikeouts in five innings of relief.Rainee Bethley, Courtney Reid, and Taylor Stewart rounded out theFC stars.
