Two reach Top 10 in outstanding teen pageant

Two Brookhaven residents were both named to the Top 10 at theMiss Mississippi Outstanding Teen Pageant Friday night inVicksburg.
Miss Midsouth Outstanding Teen Laura Lee Lewis and MissSouthwest Mississippi Outstanding Teen Kelsey Jackson started theweek-long event on June 9.
They took part in talent, fitness, activewear, interview, andother competitions during the week before the final announcementFriday night. The girls were also required to have a platform tospeak about.
Lewis, 15, said getting to know her competition was her favoritepart of the pageant.
“It was the greatest experience, and I learned so much,” shesaid. “It was great to meet 29 girls from all over Mississippi, andnow wherever I go I’ll have a friend from every city in thestate.”
Jackson, 16, said her favorite part was being able to yodelwhile singing “Cowboy Sweetheart” in the talent competition. Shesaid she enjoyed being able to share the journey with other girlsfrom her hometown.
“I’m really honored, and it was a blast,” she said. “It was justa great experience and I enjoyed having three other girls fromBrookhaven to share it with.”
Miss Dixie Outstanding Teen Allison Kay White and Miss SouthCentral Outstanding Teen Holly Marie Byrd also participated in thepageant.
