Man leads authorities in high-speed chase

A high-speed chase along Interstate 55 from Wesson endedpeacefully Tuesday morning in Lincoln County near Brookhaven, lawenforcement officials said.

Following an attempted traffic stop by Wesson Police Chief SteveCarlisle, Robin Dale Rapozo, 48, led authorities in the chaseinvolving speeds up to 110-115 miles per hour as he fled in acream-colored station wagon. Rapozo, of Tennessee, is wanted inFlorida for burglary and theft, Carlisle said.

After traveling south from Wesson, officials say Rapozo turnedaround and headed north at Exit 40. It was there that Carlisle anda Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy were able to apprehend himwithout incident near Exit 42.

“It ended with the subject stopping north of the 40 and theywere taken into custody,” said Lincoln County Sheriff SteveRushing. “We really just got them turned around and headed backnorth.”

Rushing said the Mississippi Highway Patrol was called in tohelp with the pursuit as well.

Late Tuesday morning, Carlisle said he was interviewing Rapozoin an effort to learn more about why fled police. Rapozo remains incustody in Wesson.
