French new AJHS choral leader

Current Choral Music substitute teacher Thomas French got thenod for the full-time position at Alexander Junior High School atTuesday night’s Brookhaven School Board meeting.
French has been substituting for about three weeks during thesearch for a new teacher. He received his Bachelor of Arts inChoral Music at Belhaven College, and his master’s degree inconducting from Mississippi College.
French, who is from the Jackson area, will take over theschool’s choral music duties immediately.
The school board also gave permission to Superintendent LeaBarrett for the Brookhaven High School Student Council to sellglass ball ornaments bearing special messages in them to otherstudents at BHS. The Spanish Club will also be allowed to sellT-shirts.
The board also approved a field trip to the Museum of NaturalScience and to Millsaps College for the third and fourth grade onDec. 12.
Barrett also presented several points of interest, includingBrookhaven High School economics teacher Krista Russell, who tooktwo students to the Thad Cochran Forum in Jackson recently. Inaddition, Barrett pointed out, Russell was chosen as Lincoln CountyTeacher of the Year at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting onNov. 15.
Barrett also told the board that BHS senior James Dennis iscurrently serving as the 60th President Pro Tem of the theMississippi Youth Congress. Dennis was elected governor of the 2007Boys State at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, and subsequentlyran for president at the 2007 Boys Nation.
