South dominates North in 4A/5A test

Pearl – It was a clean sweep for the South in the MississippiAssociation of Coaches D. M. Howie High School All-Star BaseballGames Saturday at Pearl’s Trustmark Park. The South smashed theNorth 21-5 in the 1A-2A-3A Game.
In the nightcap, the South brought home an 11-3 win over theNorth in the 4A-5A finale.
With the win, the South currently holds a 14-8 advantage in the22-game series.
Pitcher Bryce Penny of Biloxi authored the win in relief, whilereliever Matt Cox of Itawamba AHS suffered the loss.
The North opened the scoring in the top of the second, leading 2-0on runs scored by Tyler Wells and Cody Freeman. The North wascoached by Gary Enis of Tupelo and Phil Webb of Pontotoc.
The South would respond with single runs in the third, fifth andsixth innings. McComb’s Alonzo Harris scored a run in the fifth andhad 4 stole bases in the game.
Brandon’s Shea Snowden tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth, when hewas singled home by Darin Ferris of Petal. Ferris was the game’best defensive player. Oak Grove’s Taiwan Easterling, a FloridaState football signee, scored what proved to be the winning run inthe seventh, after reaching on an error and stealing 2 bases.
In the eighth and ninth innings, Lawrence County’s Joseph Evans andTrent Hartzog (2) helped the South by scoring 3 and issuing 3singles.
“We had it in our minds to win the game,” said Hartzog, a Co-Linbaseball signee and the game’s Mark Vinson Award winner.
Catcher Mitch Pappas of Brookhaven went 0-for-2 at the plate;working the last 5 innings of the game.
Tyler Wells of Vicksburg was named the North MVP. Matt Discon ofPearl River Central was the South MVP.
