Author pens sequel to book series

Vince Prophett is a year older and a bit wiser about his specialabilities, but so are his enemies in the sequel to Franklin Countynative Tyler Scott’s sequel to “Vince Prophett and the Dead Man’sBones” that hits store shelves Monday.

In “Vince Prophett and The Red Temple,” the 12-year-old is stilltrying to cope with being the vessel for the powers of the prophetsand faces a new enemy.

“In this one the main people giving him grief are people his agebeing led by their parents, who believe in an alternativereligion,” Scott said. “I don’t ever name it. The reason it’s theRed Temple is because when he has a vision he sees it glowingred.”

The author said he chose not to name the temple because hedidn’t want to assign it to any particular religion or template ofbeliefs.

Scott will be at the Franklin County Public Library in Meadvillefrom 2-4 p.m. Monday to sign copies of his new book.

The book will be available in Brookhaven Monday at BrookhavenChristian Book and Gift Store. A book signing event here is stillbeing arranged, he said.

“I hope to have it in the next couple of weeks,” Scott said.

The 201-page “Vince Prophett and The Red Temple” follows thesuccess of the first book in the series, released in February 2006.Like its predecessor, it targets youth between the age of 10 and14.

“But it’s been received real well by everyone – old readers andyoung alike,” Scott said.

In the second book, Prophett shows the innocence of youth andbelieves that everyone will like him once they get to know him. Hisfaith is tested when some of his “friends” lead him astray, whichcauses him to lose his powers, the author said.

“They’re trying to get him involved in an alternate religion,”Scott said.

His powers return when he asks for forgiveness and begins toquestion the motives of his friends, he said. Allies and enemiesboth old and new prepare for a final showdown.

Not only is a third installment in the series plotted, Scottsaid, but progressing well for a 2008 release date.

“I’m about two-thirds of the way through with the third one,” hesaid.

The series will continue to teach strong moral character andfamily values within a Christian lifestyle, Scott said.
