MONTICELLO — Kimi Wagner pitched two victories Saturday,leading the D’Iberville Lady Warriors to a sweep of LawrenceCounty’s Lady Cougars in the opening round of the Class 4A statefastpitch softball playoffs. Wagner hurled a 3-hitter and a4-hitter as D’Iberville posted 5-2 and 7-2 triumphs, eliminatingthe Lady Cougars.

Brookhaven, runner-up to Lawrence County in the Division 6-4Arace, had its Saturday playoff series at East Central in Hurleyrained out. The Lady Panthers play at East Central today.

D’Iberville 5, Lawrence Co. 2

Wagner struck out 7 batters and walked 5 in the opener. Losingpitcher Ashley Jones allowed 5 runs on 8 hits, fanning 2 andwalking 3.

Three hits by Holly Lawrence and a double by Wagner spearheadedD’Iberville’s attack.

Jones had 2 hits for LCHS.

D’Iberville 7, Lawrence Co. 2

Wagner scattered 4 hits in the second game. She fanned 7 andwalked 4.

Jones (15-14-1) struck out 3 batters and walked 1. She allowed 9hits and 7 runs.

Two hits by Dee Dee Walker paced LCHS at the plate. The Cougarsleft 8 runners on base.

D’Iberville got 2 hits from Brandie Kovacevich, Jordan Adams andMegan Husley. Bethany Russell doubled as the Warriors broke open a1-1 deadlock with a 6-run fifth.
