Franklin Co. rips Wesson

WESSON — Paced by an eight-run, sixth-inning explosion, theFranklin County Bulldogs disposed of Wesson’s Cobras 13-4 Saturdayafternoon in area baseball action. Junior southpaw Ben McDowellwrapped up the win for the Bulldogs, pitching a complete seveninnings, allowing three earned runs on five strikeouts and onewalk.

Franklin County resume play tonight in Bude, hosting WilkinsonCounty for a varsity doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m..

The Bulldogs (6-6) used RBI doubles by McDowell and seniorshortstop Ryan Ratcliff in the top of the sixth inning to overwhelmWesson. FCHS entered the sixth ahead 3-2, before plating eightruns.

Ratcliff went 4-for-4 with three singles and a double for threeRBI.

Wesson pitcher Jonathan Grace absorbed the loss.

At the plate, Wesson was led by Grace who had two singles and adouble. Daniel Watson and Micah Davis added a single and a doubleapiece.

For the Bulldogs, McDowell plated a single and a double. CableMcMinn, Blaine Abernathy, John Paul Sullivan each added twosingles.

The Bulldogs had 15 hits total in the game, compared to Wesson’sseven.

McDowell (2-0) has allowed only three earned runs in his lasttwo starts.
