Co-Lin divides doubleheader

WESSON — Co-Lin continued struggling with defensive breakdownsbut the Wolfpack managed to split a Wednesday doubleheader onsun-kissed Sullivan Field. Wabash Valley (Ill.) Community Collegeoutscored the Wolves 12-7 in the opener before Co-Lin regrouped andbeat the Mississippi Delta Trojans 10-3 in the nightcap, paced bypitcher Brandt Hinton’s 6-hitter.

“Hopefully, we can get our defensive problems fixed,” saidCo-Lin head baseball coach Keith Case. “We are hitting the ballwell and our pitching is pretty good. But we are making far toomany errors.”

Co-Lin (11-5) visits LSU-Eunice for a doubleheader, starting at2 p.m. On Monday, Co-Lin hosts Kishwaukee (Ill.) and EastMississippi, starting at noon vs. EMCC.

Co-Lin 10, Delta 3

“Brandt controlled the ballgame for us,” said Case. “I thoughtwe played well, with the exception of the fourth when we committedtwo errors.”

Delta scored twice in the fourth, closing Co-Lin’s lead to 3-2.The Pack responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth and led6-2.

Shortstop Jordan Toney had 2 hits for Co-Lin. Paul Davis andDane Orders each collected 2 RBIs.

On the mound, Hinton (3-1) gave up 6 hits and 3 runs, 1 earned.He fanned 3 batters and walked 1.

Brian Johnson doubled and singled for the Trojans.

Wabash Valley 12, Co-Lin 7

“We had the ballgame until the sixth,” said Case. “Somedefensive miscues really hurt us and Wabash hit the ball well.”

Wabash Valley (10-4) , from Mt. Carmel, Ill., capitalized on 2Co-Lin errors and scored 6 runs ion the sixth.

Sophomore right-hander Joseph Langham absorbed the loss. He gaveup 13 hits and 10 runs, 6 earned. He fanned 4 and walked 1.

First baseman David New had 3 hits for Co-Lin, including a homerun. Catcher Ryan Hoben also had 3 hits. New, Cole Hodges, TimmyFoster and Taebyus Smith slugged doubles

Wade Dutton homered and Brian Willsey had 3 hits to powerWasbash’s

16-hit assault.
