Hautie Thompson King Lambert

Services for Hautie Thompson King Lambert, of Vidalia, La., are2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Wellman Cemetery in Lincoln County.

Mrs. Lambert, 86, died Feb. 9, 2007, at Tracehaven Health Centerin Natchez. She was born on Jan. 16, 1921, to Henry Lucous Thompsonand Letha Thames Thompson.

She was a former dental assistant for Dr. Russell Burns. She wasa member of the First Baptist Church in Vidalia, La.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, WebsterKing and Rome Lambert; her son, Webster Herman King; four brothersand four sisters.

Survivors are her daughter, Delores Fredrick and husband Ray, ofAngleton, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Evalena King, of Vidalia,La.; and her brother, Mike Thompson and wife Jean; her threegrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces andnephews.

Jean Watson Simmers

Services for Jean Watson Simmers, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Monday, Feb. 12, at First United Methodist Church in Brookhavenwith burial in Riverwood Memorial Park. Brookhaven Funeral Home onJackson Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home andon Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at thechurch.

Mrs. Simmers, 84, died Feb. 9, 2007, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Brookhaven on Feb. 16, 1922. She was theyoungest of 13 children born to Sidney J. Watson and KathrynDouglas Watson.

She was a graduate of Brookhaven High School. She was a graduateof Whitworth College in Brookhaven and Kentucky Wesleyan College.After graduation, she worked for the Ann Arbor District of theMethodist Church. She attended Candler School of Theology, EmoryUniversity, earning a master’s degree in religious education.Following work with local churches in Birmingham, Ala., andHattiesburg, she married Arthur L. Simmers Jr., in Brookhaven onAug. 4, 1946. She subsequently served Methodist Conferences andchurches on a voluntary basis.

She was retired, but had served as Director of Social andEducational Services for the Ann Arbor District of the DetroitConference of the Methodist Church, and on the Willow Run FederalPublic Housing Authority. She was Director of Education at theFirst Methodist Church of Birmingham and for the Court StreetMethodist Church in Hattiesburg. She was the Resource Person inEducation for the Philadelphia Conference of the Methodist Churchand the Resource Person in Youth work for the NortheasternJurisdiction of the Methodist Church.

As a young person in Brookhaven, she was a student of piano andappeared before many civic and local clubs as a great pianist. Astudent of speech and drama, she appeared in Brookhaven as astudent of Mrs. Houston Case and as a member of The WhitworthWorkshop.

In May, Mrs. Simmers would have been honored with her Class of1943 by Kentucky Wesleyan College during its commencement.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers, Paul,Mac, J.D., S.J. Jr., Roy, Frank and Sims Watson; her sisters,Lazzey S. Watson, Bessie Watson, Nell Shinn, Mildred Brannon andDewey Ferrell.

Survivors are her husband, Arthur L. Simmers Jr., of Brookhaven;her adopted son, Tetsuo Okuyama, of Tokyo, Japan; and hergranddaughter, Yuko Okuyama, of Tokyo.
