Thelma Dollar

Services for Thelma Dollar, of Memphis, Tenn., are 2 p.m.Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Indianola with burial in Morehead CityCemetery. Harrigill Funeral Home and Boone Funeral Home inIndianola are in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeralhome.

Ms. Dollar, 91, died Oct. 13, 2006, at Countrybrook LivingCenter. She was born on April 19, 1915, to Charlie C. Dollar andLula Murphy Dollar.

She retired from her job as a nurse after 40 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her sister, MarySmith.

Survivors are her sister, Helen D. Holloway, of Brookhaven; andher nieces, Bonnie Ard, of Ruth, Joan Pennebaker, of Isola, LouBallard, of New York, and Nancy Beasley, of Knoxville, Tenn.

Duane Douglas

Services for Duane Douglas, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. today,Oct. 16, at Wellman Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge ofarrangements.

Mr. Douglas, 36, died Oct. 12, 2006, at Mississippi BaptistMedical Center in Jackson. He was born on Oct. 14, 1969, to BobbyDouglas and Barbara Wright Douglas.

He was a boilermaker.

Preceding him in death were his brother, Stan Douglas, and hisgrandparents, C.W. Wright, Doris Wright and Jewel Douglas.

Survivors are his parents; his brother, Joey Douglas and hiswife, Michelle, of Brookhaven; his grandmother, Mrs. HollisDouglas; his nephews, Corey, Owen, and Dawson Douglas; and a numberof aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers are Adam Wright, Shane Douglas, Dusty Smith, CharlesLofton, Tom Burt, Rusty Gravel, Daniel Lofton and Sawyer Smith.

Joe Holland

Services for Joe Holland, of Meadville, are 10 a.m. Tuesday,Oct. 17, at Bude Church of God with burial in Byrds Chapel Cemeteryin Meadville. Bro. Boyd Beech, Bro. Paul Baker and Bro. Bruce Foxwill officiate, with eulogy given by Rhonda Holland. RiverwoodFamily Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is today from 5 until 10 p.m. at the funeral home,and on Tuesday from 9 until the time of the service at thechurch.

Mr. Holland, 86, died Oct. 13, 2006, at his residence. He wasborn on April 27, 1920, to Willie Paxton Holland and Ethel GammilHolland.

He was a carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.He was a member of Bude Church of God. He was an avid outdoorsmanwho enjoyed gardening. He loved his family and his church, butabove all, he loved the Lord. He was the oldest member of hischurch choir and loved Southern gospel music.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of over 50years, Helen Hester Holland; his seven brothers, Lamar, Sidney,Stewart, Bertrum, Robert, James and Jack Holland.

Survivors are his sons, Calvin Holland and wife Hazel, ofMeadville, Marcus Holland and wife Angie, of Columbia, and KennethHolland and wife Rhonda, of Aiken, S.C.; his brothers, DonaldHolland, of Meadville, and Leslie Holland, of Liberty; his sister,Alice Calcote, of Natchez; his 10 grandchildren and eightgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Joel Holland, Jonathan Holland, Brooke Holland,John Smith, Clay Duncan and Darius Foster.

Honorary pallbearers are Jamey Saucier, Preston Fugu, JesseHolland, Bryan Broome, Jimmy Edwards and Robert Scott.

Robert Earl Humphries

Robert Earl Humphries, 70, of Bogue Chitto, died Oct. 14, 2006,at his residence.

Visitation is today at Jones Family Funeral Services in McCombfrom 6 until 9 p.m. and continues Tuesday from noon until servicesat 2 p.m. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at WessonCemetery.

He was born Aug. 4, 1936, in Tylertown. He was the son of LloydHumphries and Lou Brooks Humphries.

He was a retired truck driver. He was a member of JohnstonStation Baptist Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, J.W.Humphries.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Carlisle Humphries of BogueChitto; three daughters, Shirley Linn, of Patterson, La., VivienneBales, of Bogue Chitto and Yvette Carroll, of Summit; his two sons,Randall “Randy” Humphries, of Bogue Chitto, and Robbie Humphries,of Magnolia; his brother, Bernard Humphries, of Baker, La.; twosisters, Marie Dearman, of Jackson, and Sarah Jeanette Winchell, ofCalifornia; his 14 grandchildren; and threegreat-grandchildren.

Lundie Johnson

A celebration of life service for Lundie Johnson, a lifetimeresident of Brookhaven, are 7 p.m. today, Oct. 16, at First BaptistChurch. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, 88, died Oct. 14, 2006, at Silver Cross Home. Hewas born in Pontotoc on Nov. 7, 1917, to Ernest Johnson and SueJenkins Johnson.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired grocery storeowner. He and his wife owned and operated Johnson’s Superette forover 40 years. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was a member ofFirst Baptist Church and served as general secretary for Sundayschool for several years. He and his wife celebrated 60 years ofmarriage in March 2001 before she passed away in February 2003.

Preceding him in death were his parents his wife, Lurlene CookJohnson; his brother, Chastine Johnson and his sister, ErnestineBigham.

Survivors are his daughter, Jennifer Robin and husband, John, ofKnoxville, Tenn.; and his grandson, Brandt Robin, of Knoxville.

Ella Mae Merchant

Services for Ella Mae Merchant, of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m.Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Macedonia M.B. Church in Brookhaven withburial in Hillcrest Cemetery. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in chargeof arrangements.

Visitation is today from noon until 7 p.m. with the familypresent from 6 until 7 at the funeral home.

Ms. Merchant, 64, died Oct. 11, 2006, at her home. She was bornon April 1, 1942, to Douglas Merchant and Clara SandersMerchant.

She was a former cafeteria worker at Alexander and Mamie Martin.She was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her son, Jessie Earl;and her brother, James Merchant.

Survivors are her sons, Robert Merchant and Calvin Merchant,both of Brookhaven; her daughters, Dorothy Cameron, of Katy, Texas,and Felecia Barnes, of Brookhaven; her brother, Robert Merchant, ofJackson; her sisters, Beatrice McCoy, Alberta Smith, Clara Coleman,Jeanette Newton, and Linda Merchant, all of Brookhaven, and JohnnieLloyd, of Hazlehurst; eight grandchildren; and onegreat-grandchild.

Rubye J. Taylor

Rubye J. Taylor, 96, of Smithdale, died Oct. 14, 2006, at SilverCross Home. She was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Amite County. She wasthe daughter of Rufus Jones and Georgia Sharp, She was a member ofEbenezer United Methodist Church in McCall Creek. She was also amember of the Independence Homemakers Club.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sonCecil O. Taylor

She is survived by her son, Morie DeLaughter and wife Julian, ofNatchez; her daughters, Nell Smith and husband Sherill, ofSmithdale, Shirley Schaal and husband Allen, of Mt. Pulaski, Ill.,Jonita Hancock and husband Tom, of Smithdale, Bobbie F. Dyess andhusband Jay, of Smithdale, Peggy Hartsfield and husband Jim, ofOxford, her sister; Bernice Brewer, of Smithdale; her 17grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eightgreat-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews andfriends.

Visitation is Tuesday at Ebenezer U.M.C. from 5 until 9 p.m. andcontinues Wednesday from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. withBro. Joe Felder, Hollis McGehee and Aaron Lamb officiating. Burialwill be in the church cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Services, ofMcComb, is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers willbe grandsons.
