Avants leads Bogue Chitto over Stringer Red Devils

STRINGER — The Bogue Chitto Bobcats broke into the win columnin a big way Friday night. The Bobcats ended a four-year losingstreak to the Red Devils with a 37-20 victory in their first Region4-1A game of the season.
Bogue Chitto (1-2) travels to St. John in Gulfport for itssecond district test Friday night.
“It has been four years since we won (against Stringer),” saidBogue Chitto head coach Garreth Sartin. “It was good to get ourfirst region win. It is always tough to get those on the road.”
Bobcat sophomore quarterback Seth Avants punched in the firsttouchdown on a 29-yard run in the first quarter. The PAT kickfailed as Bogue Chitto took a 6-0 lead. Avants completed a perfect8 of 8 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for twotouchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions.
“This is the first game we got the lead first,” said Sartin. “Wemoved the ball really well. We were able to throw it when we neededto.”
In the second quarter, the Bobcats tacked on three moretouchdowns and two 2-point conversion runs for a 28-7 lead over theRed Devils. Avants hit Mario Addison for a 77-yard touchdown, ranfor a 10-yard TD and followed up with a 16-yard pass to DontaeRatcliff for the third score.
A 79-yard pass-play from Avants to Addison resulted in theirfinal TD of the night in the third quarter, giving Bogue Chitto a34-7 lead.
In the final frame, Ratcliff nailed a 28-yard field goal to pushthe Bobcats’ lead to 37-7. Stringer added two late TDs and cut thedeficit to 17 points, 37-20.
Donyea Dillion helped the Bogue Chitto running game with 8carries for 79 yards. Rushing eight times for 66 yards was Avants.Ratcliff finished with 33 yards on six carries. Byron Kersee rushedfour times for 21 yards followed by Robert Anderson with 17 yardson four carries.
Ratcliff caught five passes for 54 yards for the Bobcats.Addison finished with two catches for 156 yards. Keyonna Perkinshad a catch for 39 yards.
Defensively, Scotty Brown directed the Bobcatswith 14 tackles and recovered a fumble. Cole Laird made 13 stops.Following with 10 tackles was Bubba Bigner. Addison finished withfive stops and a pass interception.
