Five home runs highlight BA win over Columbia

COLUMBIA — The Brookhaven Academy baseball team exploded for 5home runs Saturday on their way to a 15-3 win over the Columbia ina battle of the Cougar teams.
Brookhaven (10-2, 6-1) travels to Woodville Monday night to meetWilkinson County Christian Academy. The junior varsity game beginsat 4:40 p.m. followed by the varsity.
Winning pitcher Paul Davis led the way with a pair of homers.Corey Dickerson, Jeremy Winborn, and Seth Davis also homered.
Columbia led Brookhaven 3-1 after three inning with Paul Davishitting his first homer to put the run on the scoreboard. In thefourth, Winborne smashed a 3-run homer to cap the hitting.
The visitors went on a 9-0 scoring spree in the fourth inning totake a 10-3 lead over the hosts. Brookhaven added 5 more runs inthe top of the fifth to secure the win.
Brookhaven ripped 15 hits, turned 3 double plays and committed 2errors. Columbia finished with 4 hits and 2 errors.
Paul Davis improved to 3-0 on the mound with 4 strikeouts, 3walks, hit 3 batters and allowed 3 runs. Dickerson followed thefinal 23 innings with 2 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 hit allowed.
Hunter Farrar was the losing hurler, striking out 7 batters,walking 7 and allowing 10 runs on 6 hits in 3 1/3 innings. KaseyGill worked the final 2 innings with 4 runs allowed, 4 strikeoutsand 1 walk.
Ryan Vanderslice doubled twice and singled twice to leadBrookhaven at the plate. Dickerson homered and doubled twice. KeithFranklin and Kolby Byrd each collected a pair of singles.
Columbia got a double from David Murphy. Warren Lott, DrewHolmes, Ryan Havard and Drew Holmes hit safely.
