Fog makes for dangerous driving conditions

Hazardous travel conditions due to heavy fog kept emergencypersonnel busy responding to several accidents this morning,officials said.
Accidents appeared to be heaviest east of Brookhaven between 5and 8 a.m. today.
“We had two around 5 o’clock that hit deer,” said DustinBairfield, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department investigator.
The accidents involving deer happened on East Lincoln andMallalieu Roads, Bairfield said.
Heuck’s Retreat Volunteer Fire Department personnel weresimultaneously responding to accidents on Highway 84 at HarmonyRoad and on Nola Road at Monticello Street shortly before 8 a.m.There was also an earlier accident on Monticello Street closer totown.
King’s Daughters Medical Center ambulance officials said theservice responded to three accidents that required patienttransports to the hospital.
A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman said the Highway84-Harmony Road accident was the only one in Lincoln County thattroopers responded to this morning. Brookhaven Police Chief PapHenderson reported no accidents in the city this morning.
Bairfield urged caution when motorists are confronted with heavyfog and hazardous conditions like today.
“Drive slow with your lights on,” he said.
