BA in homecoming romp

Coach Ray Ishee and his Brookhaven Academy Cougars made sure thehomecoming crowd at Cougar Field Friday night didn’t go homedisappointed. After watching Miss Kelli Byrd named homecomingqueen, the fans enjoyed a dominating effort by the Cougars.
Led by sophomore quarterback Price Sessums, the Cougars smashedthe Wildcats of Silliman (La.) Institute 54-6, pushing their recordto 7-0 on the season.
Combined with the last four games of the 2003 season, theCougars have an 11-game win streak. Sessums completed 11 of 19passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 8times for 42 yards and one touchdown.
“We played well,” said BA Head Coach Ray Ishee. “OffensivelySilliman moved the ball a little better than I thought they would,We threw and caught the ball pretty well. We just had more weaponsthan they did.”
Brookhaven was able to strike first when Sessums connected withPaul Davis on a 43-yard touchdown pass with 7:48 remaining in thefirst quarter. Brad Buckles kicked his first of six PATs on thenight and the Cougars took an early 7-0 lead.
At the 3:59 mark, Sessums darted in from 11 yards out to pushthe Cougar lead to 14-0 after the Buckles kick.
The Cougars struck again with 29 seconds remaining in the firstwhen Cameron Achord caught a Sessums pass and raced 64 yards topaydirt. Brookhaven led 21-0 after the first quarter of play.
The only Brookhaven score of the second quarter was a 9-yardpass from Sessums to Achord with 30 seconds remaining in the firsthalf. The Cougars took a 27-0 lead into the locker rooms.
Brookhaven opened up the third quarter right where they left offin the second when Price Sessums connected with older brotherStewart Sessums on a 55-yard pass for the TD, pushing the Cougarlead to 34-0 with 9:56 showing on the clock.
Achord was able to add his third touchdown of the night when heran it in from six yards out as time expired in the third quarter.He would add a 19 yard touchdown run with 11:07 remaining in thegame.
Keith Franklin scored the final Cougar touchdown with 3:56remaining on a 2-yard run.
Silliman’s only score came with 5:48 remaining in the thirdquarter when Matt Williams scored on a 2 yard run. The extra pointattempt was blocked.
“It was an effort by the team,” said a cheerful Price Sessums.”The offensive line blocked really well and our receivers got a lotof yards after they caught the ball.”
BA was led on the ground by Achord who had 93 yards on 12carries. He also had 2 receptions for 73 yards and two touchdowns.Stewart Sessums led all receivers with 5 catches for 123 yards anda touchdown.
On defense, the Cougars were led by DustyBratton who made 9 stops and blocked a punt. Davis also had ninetackles. Chris Falvey, Taylor and Steven Durham added 8 stops.Achord and T-Boy Lynch each had an interception.
Silliman (0-6, 0-3) was led by David Price who had 120 yards on15 carries. Matt Williams scored the only Wildcat touchdown.
Brookhaven Academy hosts Oak Forest Friday night for a keyDistrict 4-AA matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
