Elderly man charged in rape

A 73-year-old Monticello man remained in custody this weekendafter receiving a $140,000 bond during an initial hearing Fridaymorning.
Oliver Gene Hearn Sr., 73, of 17 Jim Hearn Ln., has been chargedwith two counts of statutory rape and three counts of sexualmolestation, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames.
The charges were officially filed Friday morning, but Hearn hadbeen in custody since his arrest around midnight Monday, thesheriff said.
“He was arrested late Monday for questioning and held until thecharges were officially filed Friday,” he said.
An initial hearing was held Friday morning, and Hearn was givena $140,000 bond by Judge Donnie Mullins.
According to Thames, deputies made the arrest in response to acomplaint and filed the charges after questioning Hearn andconsulting with the alleged victims, who range in age from 10 to 12years old.

The case will be presented to the grand jury when it convenes inDecember, Thames said.
