A Monday afternoon school bus accident in Lawrence Countyresulted in one minor injury.

At 3:36 p.m. the Monticello Fire Department responded to anaccident at the intersection of Highway 84 and Ferguson Mill Road.According to Fire Chief Wayne Harrison, Dauanna Reynolds, driver ofLawrence County Schools’ bus No. 17, pulled into the path of anapproaching car.

About 20 students were on the bus at the time of accident,Harrison said.

Debbie Fortenberry, director of nursing for Lawrence CountyHospital, said one student was transported to the hospital, treatedand released. Fortenberry said the driver of the car and severalother students came to the hospital on their own and were treatedfor minor injuries and released.

“It could have been a lot worse than it was,” Fortenberrysaid.
