Co-Lin Wolves hammer Hinds

WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves hammered the Hinds Community CollegeEagles 13-3 in seven innings of baseball action Saturday atSullivan Field. The game was set for 9 innings but was called after7 due to the 10-run rule.

Last Sunday, the Wolves beat the Eagles 3-0 in Raymond.

Co-Lin (14-6) hosts Jones County Tuesday for a doubleheader.Hinds falls to 5-14 with the loss.

“Thursday was a tough day,” said Co-Lin head baseball coachKeith Case of the two road losses at LSU-Eunice. “We weren’tpleased.

“They came back today and played a good ball game,” continuedCase. “We swung the bats well today. Hopefully, this will set atone that will continue.”

The Wolves went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. TheEagles scored two in the top of the third for a brief 2-1 lead.Co-Lin answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-2lead and never relinquished it.

Co-Lin added 4 runs in the fifth, 1 in the sixth and 5 in theseventh as the officials called the game complete.

Starter Tyler Perrett (2-0) posted the win in three innings with2 runs allowed on 4 hits, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 hit batter.Boyce Varnes followed in the fourth inning, Working the fifth andsixth innings was Cass Brister with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 hitbatter. Finishing the seventh was Matthew Fox.

Brian Barlow (3-1) absorbed the loss for Hinds. Following Barlowto the mound were Chase Dorsey in the fifth, Whit Whitlock and KyleSephton in the seventh.

Powering the Wolves with two home runs was freshman thirdbaseman Justin Sykes. Catcher Diego Nucete singled three times.Ripping a home run and a single was Cole Zumbro. Keeyon Sandersdoubled and singled. Tripling was Jody Britt. Jeffrey Waycastercollected a pair of singles. Casey Guinn and Aaron Guillot hitsafely.

Britt jammed his neck while sliding into third base in thebottom of the third. He was later taken to the emergency room forfurther tests.

Leading Hinds with a triple was rightfielder Wes Burleson.Catcher John Parker doubled. Raphael Ward and Lucas Sandronisingled.

The Wolves are coming off a week of 7 games played in 7 days.Following the doubleheader with Jones County, Co-Lin plays 9innings at Bossier City, La, on Thursday, hosts East CentralSaturday for 2 games and entertains Delgado Sunday for a 9-inningcontest.
