Suspect flees burglary scene

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said a Thursday nightbreak-in and assault on Avenue A remans under investigation.
The incident at 205 Ave. A was reported at 11:55 p.m. Jan. 15after the homeowner was awakened by a noise in her house. Thevictim met the intruder in the kitchen, and she hit her head on adoor casing during a struggle, Henderson said.
The intruder, who had entered the home through a rear slidingwindow, then fled.
“It appears he ran through the backyard and out the back gate,”Henderson said.
The suspect was described as a slender-built white male aboutfive feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing black gloves with a blackcoat and hood.
Henderson said a VCR, Nintendo game system and DVD player werefound on a blanket on the floor at the home. The chief said theitems would have been taken had the burglar not beeninterrupted.
Henderson said a small amount of money was stolen during theincident.
“The investigation is continuing at this time,” Hendersonsaid.
