Services for Jacqueline Edwards Pickens of Tuscaloosa, Ala.,were 2 p.m., July 8, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tuscaloosawith burial in West Highland Cemetery in Tuscaloosa. Vanhoose andSteele Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pickens, 71, died July 1, 2003, in Tuscaloosa. She was bornin Brookhaven on Dec. 17, 1931, to Emerson Edwards Sr., and BeulahThompson Edwards.
She was a nurse and a nursing teacher. She taught obstetricnursing at Tuskegee Institute and was a school nurse at Druid HighSchool. She also worked at Druid City Hospital and VeteransAdministration Hospital in Alabama. She was a 1949 graduate ofAlexander High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree innursing from Tuskegee Institute. She was a member of Holy SpiritCatholic Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, GrantPickens Jr.
Survivors are her daughter, Granetta D. Pickens-Ware; herbrothers, Frank Edwards Sr., Emerson Edwards Jr., and BenieEdwards.
