Services for James Leslie Reeves Sr. of Raymond are 10 a.m.,Friday, April 18, at Raymond United Methodist Church with burial inLakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation is today from 5-7:30 p.m. at Wright & FergusonFuneral Home in Raymond and will continue at 9 a.m. Friday in theFamily Life Center of the church.
Mr. Reeves, 75, died April 15, 2003, at Central MississippiMedical Center. He was a native of Brookhaven. He was a graduate ofCopiah-Lincoln Junior College and Millsaps College and received hismaster’s degree in music education with vocal emphasis fromTeachers College, Columbia University. He did post-graduate studiesat Louisiana State University and the University of SouthernMississippi.
He was retired as chair of the Hinds Community College RaymondCampus Music Department (1956-86). He also had taught at Loyd StarHigh School and Co-Lin. He served as director of the Jackson ChoralSociety for two years. He was a member of the Mississippi MusicTeachers Association and served terms as president for the collegedivision of the Mississippi Music Educators and the American ChoralDirectors Association. He served on curriculum planning boards forMississippi’s junior college system and served for 10 years aschair of the Mississippi Junior College Choral Festivals. Hereceived the Ernestine Ferrel Award for excellence in musiceducation.
Preceding him in death was his brother, Howard Reeves.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Geneva Davis Reeves; hisson, J. Reeves of Raymond; his daughter, Nan Reeves of Atlanta,Ga.; his sister, Alice Curtis of Denham Springs, La.; his brothers,Butler Reeves of Brookhaven and Cullen Reeves of Corpus Christi,Texas; and two grandchildren, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hinds Community College DevelopmentFoundation or to Raymond United Methodist Church.
