Services for Gerald Smith of New Orleans, La., are 11 a.m.,Friday, March 7, at Williams Mortuary Chapel with burial in CarverHeights Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 1-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 78, died Feb. 17, 2003, at his residence. He was bornin Brookhaven on Nov. 13, 1924, to John Smith Sr., and LucretiaCreshon Smith.

He was retired. He was a graduate of Alexander High School. Heattended Alcorn College. He was a Navy veteran.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, RobertSmith; and his sister, Mabel Smith Markham.

Survivors are his brother, John Smith of New Orleans; hissister-in-law, Irene Smith of New Orleans; his nieces, LucretiaPorter and Zidia Catchings, both of New Orleans; and his nephew,Stanley Johnson of Kansas City, Kan.
