The Lincoln County Public Library’s expansion and renovation isnow officially open to the public, and the $1.07 million project iscertainly another feather in this community’s cap.
Although the project took about 10 years to go from planning tofruition, it was worth the wait.
The expansion includes about 8,000 square feet of additionalspace. That brings the total library area up to about 20,000 squarefeet. The library is more spacious. It’s more functional.
Library officials believe the true shining star of the work isthe expanded children’s area, which explodes with color and haswindows for viewing the new outside garden area. The focus on thearea’s children will go hand-in-hand with our excellent schoolsystems.
The improvements were funded with a $500,000 grant from thestate library commission and a matching $500,000 bond issueauthorized by the county board of supervisors. Anonymous donors andlibrary supporters also contributed.
We thank Library Director Henry Ledet and his staff for theirefforts, and we thank everyone else who helped make the libraryimprovements a reality.
Lincoln County can now boast of having one of the finest — ifnot the finest — public library in SouthwestMississippi.
Check it out.
