Services for Calvin Conner Gates of Summit are 2 p.m., Monday,Aug. 26, at Hartman Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Moak’s CreekBaptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jimmy Smith and the Rev. MillardPurl will conduct the services.
Visitation today is from 11 a.m. until service time at thefuneral home.
Mr. Gates, 74, died Aug. 24, 2002, at his residence. He was bornin Columbia on Jan. 30, 1928, to Reese Gates and Lucy BakerGates.
He was retired from the Mississippi State Highway Departmentafter 35 years. He was a Mason in the Summit lodge. He was a memberof the Baptist faith. He served in the Marines.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Jeff Gates;his sister, Billie Mason; and his brother, Jack Burks.
Survivors are his wife, Elmease Roberts Gates of Summit; his sonand daughter-in-law, Bobby and Pam Gates of Moak’s Creek; hisdaughter and son-in-law, Barbara G. and Ralph Case of Brookhaven;his sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Sammy Broom of Bassfieldand Nell and Wayne Prine of Columbia; his grandchildren, Dee DeeWisinger Gardiner, Jim Wisinger, Terry Gates, Bobby Gates, DianneGates Martin, Christy Gates Miller, and Regina Gates; and sixgreat-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and ninestep-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Sonny Parker, Edwin Johnson, Harold McClelland,Kent Welch, J. D. Hall, and Walter Martin.
