Brakemen rally late; nip Hub City Wheels

HATTIESBURG -The Brookhaven Brakemen exploded for six,fifth-inning runs and rallied pat the Hub City Wheels ofHattiesburg 7-5 Monday night in Cotton State League action.
The Brakemen (7-11) host the CSL-leading Poplarville Rivercatstonight, starting at 6:30 on Brookhaven Academy’s field.
After a 20-minute rain delay, last night’s game got under way onWilliam Carey College’s field..
Mitch Mangum pitched 5 innings and got the win. A risingsophomore at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Mangum (2-1), gaveup 5 earned runs, 6 hits, struck out 1 batter and walked 1.
Michael Edwards replaced Mangum in the bottom of the sixth.Edwards allowed 1 hit, struck out 2, walked 1 and held the Wheelsscoreless.
Josh Grant was the losing pitcher. He was lifted in the fifthand replaced by Justin Hennington. In the sixth, Chris Moorereplaced Hennington.
At the plate, second baseman Josh Thoms led the Brakemen with a6th-inning double. Hitting safely were Jacob Blakeney, AaronOberschmidt and Joey Sullivan in the fifth when Brookhaven explodedfor 6 runs. Hattiesburg walked 2 batters, hit 2 and committed 2throwing errors in the uprising.
First baseman Seth Lofton provided Brookhaven with an RBI singlein the third, tying the scoreboard at 1-1.
Hattiesburg first basemen Marcus Grisham went 3-for-4, includinga double. Grisham plays for Delta State.
