Memorial services for Joan Reddish Carigan of Brookhaven are 6p.m., Wednesday, April 17, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemerin Brookhaven with burial in Somerset Cemetery in Somerset, Ky.
Miss Carigan, 89, died April 14, 2002. She was born in ColonBeach, Panama, on Feb. 12, 1913, to William Edward Carigan and JoanReddish Carigan. She was a former resident of Columbia, S.C., andLexington, Ky. She was a graduate of the University ofKentucky.
She served two years in the U. S. Navy at Banana River, Fla.,and retired from the Veterans Administration in Columbia, S.C.,after more than 30 years of service. An accomplished businesswoman,in 1974 she was named Outstanding Federal Employee of the Year bythe Columbia Federal Council and Woman of the Year by the ColumbiaBusiness and Professional Women’s Club.
Prior to her move to Brookhaven, she was a member of TrinityCathedral Church in Columbia for over 20 years, serving in thechoir and the bookstore. From 1972 to 1992, she served as aHelpline volunteer for the Midlands Crisis Center. She traveledextensively and served as president of the Business andProfessional Women’s Club for many years.
Preceding her in death were her sister, Gertrude C. Webb, andher brother, William Carigan.
Survivors are her brothers, Patrick Carigan of Lexington, Ky.,and James Carigan of Cincinnati, Ohio; her cousins, Sue M. Smith ofBrookhaven and Betty Cloud of Lexington, Ky.; and many belovednieces and nephews and their families.
