Nominations sought for Women’s Month honors

Women will have the opportunity to be honored in a special wayin March as a group of retired teachers prepares to activelyparticipate in Women’s History Month.

The Lincoln County/Brookhaven Retired Teachers group willrecognize three women at a luncheon planned for 11 a.m., March 13,at Western Sizzlin.

Nominations are being sought for the three categories: womenfrom Lincoln County who have retired from teaching, women fromhistory and present-day women of the world.

“In making nominations, people should consider women who havemade important contributions in our community and have demonstratedspecial talents and accomplishments,” said the Rev. W.A. Matthews,program chairman.

The first category applies to any retired women who taught inthe Brookhaven or Lincoln County School Districts or BrookhavenAcademy, explained Matthews, who had 31 years in education and 21years in the ministry.

The second category leaves more room for imagination since itapplies to any deceased women.

“It could be Mary the mother of Jesus or any historical womanlike that,” said Matthews.

The present-day women of the world award encompasses all womenstill living who have made an impact in the area.

Matthews hopes schools, clubs and other groups will get involvedin the nomination process, so their will be a wide range ofnominees.

“We would like them to talk about it in a group and send ustheir nominations,” he commented.

The nominees will be presented during the luncheon. BrookhavenHigh School coach and history teacher Randy Spring will be thefeatured speaker for the event.
