Loyd Star romps past Cathedral

The host Loyd Star teams swept two games from the NatchezCathedral Green Wave Tuesday night. Powered by Seth Britt’s 16points, three steals and three assists, the Hornets blew away theGreen Wave 77-37 in the varsity boys game.

In the varsity girls game, Ava Brown’s 15 points and 11 reboundshelped the Loyd Star girls to a lopsided 60-34 victory overCathedral.

The Hornets (9-3, 3-2), trailing the Greenies 12-7 at the end ofthe first quarter, switched to a full-court press and outscored thevisitors 32-2 to take a 38-14 lead at the half.

“In the second quarter, we made our move,” said Loyd Star boyscoach Gene “Moochie” Britt. “We full-court pressed them. Ourman-to-man made a difference in the game.”

Jared Britt pumped in 13 points, made two steals and had threeassists for the Hornets. Demarcus Barnes pulled down five reboundsand had four assists. Making nine steals and blocking one shot wasJosh Britt. Sidney Chester blocked two shots.

Traventi Smith had seven points for the Green Wave.

In the girls game, the Lady Hornets led 7-6 after the firstquarter, 26-12 at halftime and 49-20 going into the fourthquarter.

Coached by Lori Britt, the Lady Hornets improved to 7-5 overalland remain 3-2 in division action.

Adding support to the Loyd Star win with 14 points and sixsteals was Jordan Britt. Jamakia Henderson finished with 11 points,six rebounds and five steals. Ashton Williams also grabbed sixrebounds.

Mary Margaret Allwood scored 16 points for Cathedral.

Loyd Star visits Piney Woods Friday for division action. Fourgames are scheduled.
