West Lincoln takes three from Wesson

Senior guard Cody Mitchell pumped in a game-high 26 points tolead the host West Lincoln Bears to a 66-41 win over the WessonCobras Friday night. Mitchell nailed 8 three-pointers and made foursteals in Jack Case Gymnasium.
In the girls contest, junior Dana King and senior Holli Bassfired in 14 points apiece as the Lady Bears dumped the Lady Cobras53-10.
“We shot the ball well from the outside,” said West Lincolncoach Andy Smithie following win. “Wesson did a very good job. Theywill win some games this year.”
Wesson (0-2) played West Lincoln (5-3) close in the firstquarter with a brief 8-7 lead. The Bears came back with a 20-12 runto go into the half with a 27-20 lead.
In the third quarter, Wesson cut the deficit to nine points,42-33 but West Lincoln answered back with a couple of threepointers at the start of the fourth for a 24-10 run and win.
Forward Luke Lofton collected 16 points, pulled down eightrebounds and made six steals for West Lincoln. Following with 13points and 16 rebounds was Sam Collins. Brooks Smith collected sixrebounds and had seven assists.
For Wesson, senior Richie Miller led with 14 points. RoderickClay followed with 11 points and nine rebounds.
“West Lincoln’s hitting three pointers made the difference inthe game,” said Wesson boys head coach Billy O. Britt. “Andy isdoing a good job coaching them.”
The 7-1 Lady Bears went up 9-4 in the first quarter and 26-9over the 0-3 Lady Cobras at halftime. In the second half, Wessonmanaged just one point as West Lincoln racked up 27 points for theeasy win.
“We played good aggressive defensie,” said Smithie. Wesson wentscoreless in the fourth quarter.
“We kept up with them in the first half,” stated Wesson girlshead coach Scott Johnson.
Tops off the backboards for West Lincoln was Chastity Avantswith eight rebounds. Bass finished with seven rebounds. ChristineHunt led with five steals. King added four assists and threesteals.
Senior Kail Baldwin paced Wesson with five points.
Junior varsity Boys
The West Lincoln boys knocked off Wesson 38-23. Leading theBears with 12 points was Eric Stewart. Netting 10 points was LandonCase.
Wesson got five points apiece from Adrian Merchant and WadeWilliams.
West Lincoln visits Salem and Wesson entertains Loyd StarTuesday night. The games at West Lincoln begin at 5 p.m. with a JVgirls. Wesson starts at 4 with a JH girls game.
