LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 4.0 men’s Brookhaven tennis went 1-2before being eliminated from the USA League Tennis SouthernSectional Championship Tournament Thursday and Friday. Brookhavenis the Mississippi champ.

Playing for Brookhaven were Tyson Nelson, Mitch Rayborn, TomMonroe, Kevin Rayborn, Dennis Sims, Ryan Brownhill, RichardPanzica, Bob Lawrence, Stan Winborne and Tim Johnson.

The Brookhaven team defeated Huntsville, Ala., 4-1 Thursday inthe first match. Nelson Bond of Huntsville beat Rayborn 4-6, 6-2,1-0. Brownhill bested Brooks Taylor 7-5, 3-6, 1-0. In doublesaction, Winborne-Sims defeated Dennis Mims-Larry Beggs 7-6, 7-5 andRayborn-Panzica bested William Woodworth-Robert Spalding 6-1,6-2.

In Thursday’s late match, Lexington, Ky. upset Brookhaven 4-1.Rayborn won the only match with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Ted Murphy.Michael Voss swept Brownhill 7-6, 7-6 in the other singles match.The doubles play saw Fred Parsons-Steve Mcfall down Monroe-Lawrence6-3, 6-3; Keith Caton-Tom Cloud best Nelson-Johnson 6-4, 6-4 andBob Anderson-Zan Rexcoat nip Sims-Panzica 6-7, 6-3, 1-0.

Brookhaven was eliminated by Mandeville, La., Friday. Raybornposted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mesa Michael. Blake Andrews go pastBrownhill 6-4, 6-3 in the other singles match. In doubles play, TomNewman-Harvey Bently downed Johnson-Nelson 3-6, 7-6, 1-0; MitchHanning-Roger Payne bested Rayborn-Panzica 6-3, 6-4 and BurtDalton-Billy McDougal eliminated Winborne-Sims 3-6, 7-5, 1-0.
