PRENTISS – Brookhaven Academy senior guard Amy Smith fired in 14points to spark the Lady Cougars in a 57-37 Saturday night win overthe Prentiss Christian School Lady Saints. Smith also had threeassists.

In the varsity boys game, junior guard Ben Davis pumped in 21points to direct the Cougars to an 80-39 victory over theSaints.

Brookhaven 57, Prentiss 37

The 23-1 Brookhaven girls led Prentiss 7-5 at the end ofthe first quarter and 23-20 at halftime. The Lady Cougars explodedfor a 20-7 run in the third quarter to go into the final frame up43-27 over the Lady Saints.

Adding support to the Brookhaven win with 11 points,seven rebounds and three assists was Lindsay Altman. LindseyPhillips followed with nine points, six rebounds and four assists.Katie Newman collected six rebounds, made four steals and had threeassists. Making five steals was Anna K. Gatlin.

Heather McHart led Prentiss with 11 points.

Brookhaven 80, Prentiss 39

Boys action saw the 15-4 Brookhaven Cougars improve on afive point, 19-14, first-quarter lead over Prentiss and expand itto 35-23 at the half following a 16-9 run in second-quarteraction.

“We’re getting a little better,” said Brookhaven Academyboys head coach Dale Watts. “We are getting moreconsistent.’

Jake Sessums netted 16 points and had five assists forthe Cougars. Turner Havard scored 12 points and pulled down eightrebounds. Paul Coker finished with 10 points. Cole Smith grabbedseven rebounds. Making six steals was Chad Lagrone.

Nick Bailey pumped in 11 points for theSaints.

In the junior high girls game, Brookhaven clobberedPrentiss Christian 41-21. Leading the 14-0 Lady Cougars with sevenpoints apiece were Jessie Altman, Kelli Byrd and Mallory Logan.Allyson Pickett finished with six points.

Lee Martin netted five points for the LadySaints.

Brookhaven Academy visits Bowling Green in Franklinton,La., Tuesday for four games. The junior high girls begin play at 4p.m.
