Co-Lin crushes Coahoma

WESSON – Forward Tiffany Dales sacked 19 points in leading theCo-Lin Lady Wolves to a 93-57 Saturday night victory over theCoahoma Community College Lady Tigers. Dales, a 5-9 sophomore fromAlexandria, La., also had 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

In the men’s game, guard Brandon Dickerson sacked a game-high 21points as the Wolves buried Coahoma 116-74.

Co-Lin resumes play Tuesday night, hosting Delgado CommunityCollege of New Orleans. The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m.

The Lady Wolves (9-0), ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA poll, placedfour players in double figures as Coach Gwyn Young began earlysubstitutions. Freshman forward Vanessa Andrews followed Dales with13 points. Denise Catchings and Gwen Smith each scored 10points.

On the backboards, Christy Brown and Sheritha Simmons each had 7rebounds.

“It was a very physical game and there were a lot of fouls byboth teams, ” said Coach Young. Coahoma picked up 30 personals andCo-Lin had 23.

“WE had a a good effort tonight,” said Young. “Our players wereunselfish. We still need to work on playing better half-courtdefense and improving our rebounding.”

Coahoma got 12 points and 14 rebounds from Vondreal Edwards, a5-11 sophomore from Clarksdale.

The Wolves (7-2) rebounded from a Monday night loss to GulfCoast and placed six players in double figures. Brandon Barfieldscored 15 points, Tony Thompson 14, Quentin Christian 13 and CedricHamilton 11.

“Everybody got to play in the first half,” aid Co-Lin coachDennis Sims. “We made the shots and had good decisions in ourhalf-court offense.” The Wolves howled to a 61-32 advantage.

“Our press gave (Coahoma) a lot of trouble,” Sims continued.”I’m pleased with the way we played, especially coming off thatloss to Gulf Coast.”

Sims used a new starting lineup last night. Starting guard RodHaynes was sidelined by an ankle injury. Freshmen B.J. Black,Brannon Barfield and Bruce Smith joined sophomores Barry Whitleyand Dickerson in the starting lineup.

On the backboards, Barfield led the Wolves with 10 rebounds andHamilton grabbed 6. Whitley had 7 assists and 5 steals.
