Terry hands Lady Panthers two losses

The Brookhavan Lady Panthers lost a pair of crucial softballgames to Division 6-4A rival Terry Tuesday night at the BrookhavenSports Complex
The Brookhavan Lady Panthers lost a pair of crucial softballgames to Division 6-4A rival Terry Tuesday night at the BrookhavenSports Complex. Game One saw the Lady Bulldogs score 2 runs in thetop of the eighth and proceed to hold off the Lady Panthers 11-9.Terry used superb defensive play to take Game Two 10-5.
Brookhaven travels to Copiah County on Thursday to meet divisionfoe Crystal Springs. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. with a varsitygame only. Terry 11, Brookhaven 9
Brookhaven (6-9, 3-3) stayed in this contest until thevery end. The Lady Panthers continued to hit the ball well, but onthis night the Terry defense was outstanding.
In the bottom of the seventh and Brookhaven’s deficit9-5, the Lady Panthers began to fight back. Pinch-hitter CourtneyFielder reached on a 2-base error. Devine Porter also reached on a2-base error, moving Fielder to third. Kayla Allen drove a home rundeep into the outfield to score all 3 baserunners. Two batterslater, Juliana Wallace tripled. Shemeka Gilmore singled to scoreWallace and tie the game at 9-9 heading into extrainnings.
Terry (12-4), under the direction of former BrookhavenHigh standout Kelly Tarver, reclaimed the lead at 11-9 in theirhalf of the eighth. Jessica McGinn and Brittany Keen deliveredback-to-back singles. Melanie Keen, on a 2-0 pitch, singled toscore both runners.
Keen was the winning pitcher.
The Lady Panthers tried to rally in the bottom of theinning but the Terry defense was able to snuff out thethreat.
Ginny Dunaway paced the Brookhaven attack with 3singles. Allen had a double and a home run. Wallace had a singleand a triple. Chiquita Ratcliff singled and homered. Lindsey Marblesingled twice.
Marble took the loss for the Lady Panthers. Terry 10,McComb 5 Terry (13-4) was looking to sweep this important divisionshowdown. With a win, the Lady Dawgs would go into their matchupwith Lawrence County on Thursday undefeated in division play.Tarver’s ballclub took an early 1-0 advantage.
Brookhaven (6-9, 3-4) had other ideas in the earlyinnings. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Panthers retook thelead at 3-1. Porter singled. Allen reached on an error. SamanthaBoutwell grounded into a fielder’s choice, forcing Porter to third.Wallace drilled a ball that rolled to the outfield fence for a3-run homer.
The Lady Dawgs scored twice in the second to tie thegame at 3-3.
The Lady Panthers answered with 2 run in their half ofthe third to retake the lead at 5-3. Megan Bateman reached on a 2-base error. Allen singled to score Bateman. Wallace tripled toscore Allen.
Terry produced 5 runs in their half of the fifth, andadded 2 insurance runs in the seventh to hold on for thewin.
Wallace homered and tripled to lead the Brookhavenoffense. Dunaway had a single and a triple. Porter singled twice.Fielder had 2 singles. Allen and Gilmore singled.
Keen was the winning pitcher for Terry while Marble tookthe loss for Brookhaven.
