Unbeaten BA Cougars invade Prentiss

The undefeated Brookhaven Academy Cougars will put their 2-0 winstreak on the line Friday night when they visit the PrentissChristian School Saints at N.O. Tyrone Memorial Field. The gamekicks off at 7:30 p.m.
In area academy action, McComb Parklane travels to Oak Forest,La., Copiah Academy visits Hillcrest Christian and Union Academy isat Porter’s Chapel.
Brookhaven Academy crushed Central Hinds 35-0 and PrentissChristian handed the Bowling Green Buccaneers a 13-7 loss lastFriday.
“They (Prentiss Christian) are big, strong and fast,” saidBrookhaven Academy head coach Doug Clanton. “They have pretty goodspeed with Blake Bass, on the pass or the run. They are big acrossthe front.
The Saints held Bowling Green to 7 points last week.
“I hope our speed will negate their size,” said Clainton.”Hopefully the weather will be better for us than them. We aregoing over there to whip them.”
Clanton said senior runningback/linebacker Dustin King sustaineda sprained knee in last week’ game and is questionable forFriday.
“Our kids will be physically and mentally ready,” addedClanton.
Runningback Ryan Nix scored three touchdown for BrookhavenAcademy. Nix rushed 6 times for 45 yards. Top rusher was Ben Davis,who scored a touchdown on a 12-yard pass interception return, with4 rushes for 48 yards.
Quarterback Jake Sessums competed 7 of 14 passes for 88yards.
Linebacker Jeffrey Waycaster powered the Cougar defense with 11tackles. Davis and Jason McGuffie finished with 8 stops.
Prentiss Christian totaled 5 first downs and 153 yardsoffensively all of itsyards coming on its ground in its win overBowling Green last Friday.
Directing the Saints with 8 carries for 101 yards was Bass. JoshErwin followed with 30 yards on 6 carries.
Justin Douglas paced the Prentiss Christian defense with 12tackles. Making 9 stops was Ryan Fortenberry.
Last season, Prentiss Christian knocked off Brookhaven24-12.
McComb Parklane (1-0) is coming off a 28-6 victory overAdams County Christian School. Friday’s opponent for Coach CharlieNewlon’s Pioneers are the Yellow Jackets from Oak Forest,La.
Last Friday, Oak Forest was dumped 34-12 by SillimanInstitute, La.
Oak Forest tapped Parklane 19-14 in last year’sgame.
Copiah Academy (0-2) was blanked by East Rankin 19-0last Friday. Coach David Gregory and his Gallman-based Colonelsprepare for a road trip to Jackson to face HillcrestChristian.
Hillcrest Christian was a 38-6 victim of StarkvilleAcademy last Friday.
Union Academy (1-2) gunned down Sylva-Bay 19-6 lastFriday and will face Porter’s Chapel this week. Coaching theGeorgetown-based Saints is Randy Holloway.
Porter’s Chapel (0-1) is coming off a 20-7 loss at thehands of Woodland Hills.
Union shut out Porter’s Chapel 21-0 in last year’smatchup.
