Brookhaven teamscapture openers inNorth Subdistrict

GALLMAN -The Brookhaven American and National League All-StarTeams were opening round winners in the Dixie Youth Baseball MajorLeague North Subdistrict Six Tournament. The Americans beat CrystalSprings 4-2 and the Nationals knocked off Lincoln County 13-9Friday.

In the other opening round game, Hazlehurst beat Wesson10-4.

The Nationals exploded for 12 hits, led by rightfielderGrant Nations with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. First baseman KeithFranklin doubled, singled and drove in 2 runs.

Tyler Williford doubled and singled for Brookhaven.Brandt Hinton tripled. Casey Britt hit a ground rule double. MattFloyd collected a 2 RBI single. Brandon Smith had an RBI single.T.J. Quarles and Dusty Vanderslice also hit safely.

“We hit the ball extremely well,” said Nationals coachBuddy Thibodeaux. “And we hit the ball hard.”

The Nationals broke a 3-3 deadlock with a 5-run fourth.They plated 5 more runs in the fifth and led 13-3.

Hinton was the winning pitcher. He was relieved by TylerWilliford in the fourth. Hinton gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3hits, walking 6 and fanning 5.

Williford allowed 6 runs (3 earned) on 2 hits. He walked9 and fanned 7.

Amon Herring was the losing pitcher.

Lincoln County had 5 hits, led by Virgil Sanders who hadan RBI double. Marcus Smith, Martin Dixon, Demond Wilson and GarionCrockett singled.

Hazlehurst 10, Wesson 4

A home run by Lucas DeLarvia led Hazlehurst’sattack.

Wesson got 2 hits from Mason Douglas, Joseph Decker andJoel Carruthers. Benton Bell doubled.

Bennett Wilson went the distance and picked up the win.Adam Burgess was the losing pitcher.

Americans 4, Crystal Springs 2

The victory vaulted the Americans to a Monday night 8o’clock matchup against the winner of the Hazlehurst-BrookhavenNationals game.

Against Crystal Springs, the Americans scored twice inthe top of the sixth to a break a tie and secure thewin.

Patrick Holcomb started for the Americans and pitched 3innings of no-hit baseball. He struck out 5 and walked1.

Mason Warren relieved Holcomb in the fourth and gave up2 unearned runs, fanning 6 and walking 2. Shane Lynch pitched thesixth inning, held Crystal Springs hitless and recorded 3strikeouts to secure the win.

At the plate, Holcomb had 2 hits. Brett Hart and ColeNewell singled.

Burnell Teasley was the losing pitcher. He struck out 7batters, walked 4 and allowed 4 runs in 6 innings.
