Property owner’s help leads to burglary arrests

A house burglary on Toy Drive three days after Christmas led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with the burglaries of two more properties taking place earlier in the month.

Sunday, Dec. 28, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Laterrence Lenoir and Desmond Williams for a alleged house burglary on Toy Drive. Sheriff Steve Rushing said the property owner noticed a vehicle with the two male suspects leaving their property.

A deputy was able to locate the vehicle described by the property owner. Rushing said during the course of the investigation they discovered property from Toy Drive in the car and through further investigation were able to tie the two to burglaries on Old Malcolm Road and Haley Trail.

Charged with three accounts of house burglary both suspects had previous warrants; Williams, from the city for aggravated assault and Lenoir, for a robbery at the Dollar General on Highway 550. Officers were able to make an arrest on an indictment from Lenoir’s Sept. 2013 incident.

Rushing said the suspects went through the house and took some TVs and in one case a gun along with other pieces of property.

“Don’t stop being on guard,” Rushing said speaking about the Toy Drive property owner who was able to identify the suspects’ vehicle. “That’s what helped solve this case.”
