Lady Jaguars edge McComb

SUMMIT – The North Pike Lady Jaguars managed to overcome an nine-inning defensive bout to prevail 4-3 over the McComb Lady Tigers Thursday night in Region 7-4A slowpitch softball action.

The Lady Jaguars (18-4, 5-1) resume action Tuesday. They will host the Clinton Lady Arrows. Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 6:30.

The Lady Tigers, coached by Cody Hall, return to action Monday. McComb visits Brookhaven the battle the Lady Panthers. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.

N. Pike 4, McComb 3 

North Pike and McComb softball fans saw a good defensive bout as both schools battled back and forth.

The Lady Tigers managed to hold on to 3-2 lead until North Pike rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In extra innings, the Lady Jaguars worked hard to push across the winning run in the ninth inning.

McKenzie Brock pitched the win for North Pike with two strikeouts and one walk.

Layton Terrell suffered the loss for McComb with one strikeout and three walks.

Senior shortstop Lauren Wells was the offensive leader for the Lady Jags with a home run. Sarah Brock contributed three singles. Danaraye Parks, Madison Bigner and McKenzie Brock provided a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Jordan Fitzgerald and Jana McEwen.

Katie Kalusche paced the Lady Tigers’ offense with a home run. Ashley Bonds and Xadriella Mallory helped with two singles apiece. Paige Brock hit a single.

In JV action, North Pike crushed McComb 14-2.

Baylee Bryant sparked North Pike’s offense with a home run. Whitley Howell and Reanna Ivey contributed a pair of singles. Jami Spears, Linley Smith, Mary Kate Bates, Katlyn Simpson and Katelin Brent hit safely.
