The Lincoln School District Board of Trustees approved the request to advertise for lease bids for a parcel of 16th Section land.

Jim Nix, of Jones & Nix, PLLC, asked the school board to advertise for two leases on a single parcel. One lease would cover the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale level, and the other lease would include other levels for oil, gas and mineral exploration. Nix, representing a geologist in Jackson, said his client was primarily interested in the other levels but would likely bid on both.

The board approved the request to begin advertising on the understanding that they do not have to accept any of the bids. Stan Long, 16th Section land manager, said the Mississippi secretary of state’s office encourages the districts to take advantage of these types of opportunities.

Nix said his client will incur the cost of the advertisement and will post the advertisement in The Daily Leader. He also said they have tentative approval from Bill Channing with the secretary of state’s office.

The board also heard a personnel issue from parents in an executive session. The board took action to handle the issue in house.

Due to Labor Day on the first Monday of September, the first September meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m.

The board also approved:

• The Fiscal year 2014 Consolidated Federal Programs Application.

• A resolution to advertise to accept bids for two acres of land.

• The Dropout Prevention Plan for the 2014-2015 school year.

• Student transfers or releases as approved or denied by the principal.

• Requests from teachers to collect money for workbook fees.

• Requests to reimburse employees for overpayment of insurance premiums.
