Wesson hires Loy as new head football coach
Wesson Athletic Director Ronald Greer on Friday announced the hiring of Jeremy Loy as Wesson’s new head football coach. Loy replaces Greer, who stepped down from the head coach position last season.
“Wesson is a great place for me and my family,” said Loy. “There is a lot of pride in this community for their school. Football is important to them and it is a great opportunity for me to be a head coach.”
Loy said his plan is to build Wesson into a district title contender year in and year out. He also wants to see his players graduate and become good young men.
“We are going to be a team that puts faith first, family next and football third,” said Loy. “We are going to work hard every day to get better as men, as students and as players. Win or lose, teams are going to know that the Wesson Cobras play hard, play tough and will not quit.”
Loy comes from Brookhaven, where he served as the assistant offensive coordinator for the past couple of years. He has been coaching for 13 years. He had other assistant coaching stints at Vicksburg High School, Franklin County High School, Tupelo High School and Mendenhall High School.
As a teacher, Loy said he was certified in physical education.
Loy is a graduate of Mississippi State University. He is married to Sarah and they have three kids: Will (11), Macy (8) and Wesly (6).
“We are excited to have Coach Jeremy Loy join our staff here at Wesson as the new head football coach,” said Greer. “We believe that coach Loy brings the experience and enthusiasm needed to get our football program back on track. He has had the opportunity to work with some quality coaches and in some quality programs throughout our state. We feel the time has come for him in his career to take the reigns as a head coach and lead a program. We are excited about welcoming his wife Sarah and their three children to our school and community.”
Wesson finished last season with a 3-8 record overall and was 0-5 in Region 7-3A action.
“We wish coach Loy and his family all the best in the next chapter of their life,” said BHS head coach Tommy Clopton. “Jeremy is an extremely hard worker and a really good football coach. He will be a great head coach and his players will enjoy playing for him. He definitely has a passion for working with young people and is a great fit for Wesson High School.”
