GP presents computers to Co-Lin
MONTICELLO – Georgia-Pacific Monticello has announced the donation of six computers with keyboards to the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Science Division.
Copiah-Lincoln said the computers will replace older equipment used in the physics and astronomy labs, and also be used as part of the summer robotics camp for elementary and junior high students.
“The Co-Lin science division is very appreciative of the generous computer donation from Georgia Pacific,” said Dr. Kevin McKone, director of the robotics program and chair of the Co-Lin science department.
“These computers will replace over half a dozen aging computers in Co-Lin’s physics lab. Co-Lin will use these computers for elementary and junior high summer robotics camps, along with physics and astronomy labs at the college. These computers could not have come at a better time – an early Christmas.”
These computers became available as part of normal technology upgrades at the Monticello Containerboard mill as the mill continues to align new technology with innovation and opportunity. The donation reflects Georgia-Pacific’s on-going commitment to local education.
“Georgia-Pacific is excited to be able to partner with Co-Lin and provide computers and keyboards for the school’s use,” said Tammy Thames, GP Monticello’s manager of technology and computer services and a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln.
“It is great to see the computers go to good use in our community to help develop student computer skills and improve academic achievement for both future careers and life.”
The computers were delivered by GP Monticello IT manager Tammy Reid Thames and public affairs manager Ray Melick, and accepted by Copiah-Lincoln Community College president Dr. Ronnie Nettles and McKone.
This donation is in addition to 25 computers and keyboards that were previously donated to the Lawrence County School System and five computers with keyboards donated to the Simpson County School District.
