Shooting investigated in Monticello
Police are investigating a shooting that took place on Rock Port Avenue in Monticello at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, leaving one woman injured.
Monticello Police Chief David Stanley reported that the victim, Precious Rogers, 19, and Arlo Thompson were parked in a parking lot on Rock Port Avenue when a black truck drove by.
Witnesses said three-to-six rounds were fired from the black truck at the driver’s side door of Rogers’ vehicle. Rogers was hit in the leg and was taken to the Lawrence County Hospital and later transferred to Forest General Hospital where she was treated for the non-life threatening injury, Stanley said. She has now been released from the hospital.
Stanley said officials think the incident stemmed from an early verbal altercation involving the victim at a home on Oak Grove Road. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, the people involved had already dispersed, Stanley said.
The police chief also reported that sometime after the shooting, a shotgun was fired at a vehicle parked at Oak Grove Road.
The three cases are still under investigation by the Monticello Police Department and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
