Fitzwater, Nickles named MACJC Players of the Week
WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln quarterback Daniel Fitzwater and kicker Greg Nickles have been named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Offensive and Special Teams players of the week respectively. Fitzwater and and Nickles both had standout performances in No. 10 Co-Lin’s 44-30 win over Northwest in the MACJC semifinals on Saturday.
Fitzwater threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns on 23-of-44 passing. The sophomore signal caller has topped 350 yards passing in four games this season and is averaging 284 yards per game. He has thrown 21 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2014 and has tossed a TD in 16 consecutive games in his career at Co-Lin. Against Northwest his 25-yard scoring strike to Courtney Foy tied the game up early in the fourth quarter. Fitzwater also had scoring throws to Germie Martin and De’Lance Turner. The Shreveport native has thrown scoring passes to 16 different receivers in his two years in Wesson.
Nickles accounted for 14 points in the win over Northwest as he kicked field goals of 23, 22, and 46-yards and went 5-for-5 on PAT attempts. The 46-yard kick was a career long for the East Rankin Academy graduate. Nickles is 13-for-16 on field goal attempts this season and 38-for-43 on the point after kicks. He was previously named player of the week after a 41-21 Co-Lin win over Hinds.
Other Wolves who have previously been named MACJC player of the week include Diquan Davis (special teams), Demond Tucker (defense), and Donald Gray (offense/special teams). Davis and Gray (twice) have been named National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Player of the Week.
