WESSON – Brookhaven and Wesson baseball fans experienced a great game of baseball Friday night. Both teams battled back and forth in an offensive thriller, but Brookhaven managed to pull out with the win in the seventh inning to claim a 12-11 victory.

Wesson travels to Hazlehurst on Tuesday, to play the Hazlehurst Indians. Game time is 3 p.m. for junior varsity action and 5 p.m. for Varsity.

Brookhaven will also be on the road Tuesday, at Pearl River Central High School. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Brookhaven 12, Wesson 11 

The Wesson Cobras fell to the Brookhaven Panthers in a hard loss Friday night. The Cobras led the scoreboard for most of the game, but the Panthers put the winning runs on the scoreboard during the 7th inning to get the win.

Starting pitcher for the Panthers, Scotty Bateman, averaged two strikeouts and one walk. Penn Wilson closed out the game with an impressive 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Wilson also was a top hitter for Ole Brook with a double and single which averaged 1 RBI. Other hitters for Brookhaven were Michael Lambert – double and single, Myles Tipton – two singles (RBI-2), and Reed Jones – double (RBI-2).

The Cobras’ starting pitcher, Tyler McLeod, averaged four strikeouts and 0 walks. Payton Burns took over in the fourth inning and threw four strikeouts and walked five batters.

Preston Adams closed out the sixth and seventh innings with one strikeout.

Mack Smith was the big hitter for Wesson with a two-run home run in the second inning. Jace Alexander and Preston Adams both hit 2 singles each.

In junior varsity action,  the Panthers defeated the Cobras 5-2.
