Wesson overpowers Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST – The Wesson Cobras knocked off the Hazlehurst Indians 11-1 Tuesday to claim a big Region 7-3A victory.

The Cobras, coached by Seth Lofton, will look to close out the series with a sweep tonight as they host the Indians. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

The Cobras scored eight runs in the first three innings. An RBI triple by Jeremy Smith, an RBI single by Bolon Tadlock, a two-run single by Slay Acy, and a steal of home by Will McInnis fueled Wesson’s offense early.

Acy got on base three times in the game, scoring one run and finishing with two RBIs.

Alex Mooney had a solid performance on the mound for Wesson. He gave up just one hit, allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out seven during his five innings of work.

Jeremy Smith directed the Cobras with a triple. Max Daughdrill, Bolon Tadlock, Preston Middleton, Will McInnis, Slay Acy and Cade Rast hit safely.
